The Interim Library:
Where is the library located during the renovation project? The library is located in the Terrace Room, on the lower level of the Commons (across from Mac’s Market).
Watch the Where's the Library? video to see how to get from the previous library building to the Terrace Room Interim Library, or see a map showing the location of the Terrace Room Interim Library on campus.
The Terrace Room Interim Library may be accessed via stairs inside the Commons, or from outside of the Commons by following the path around the building and down to the Terrace Room entrance.
Where can I return items that I have checked out?You may return materials to either:
- The Terrace Room Interim Library (during open hours)
- The Library book drop, located outside the Commons on the north side (across from Shiley Hall) under the covered walkway.
What hours is the Terrace Room Interim Library open? The library will continue to offer the same hours in the Terrace Room Interim Library. See the Library Hours for the full schedule.
Is there disabled access to the Terrace Room Interim Library?Yes. Disabled access is available via the paved path behind the Commons. Go to the far end of the parking lot between the Commons and the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center, then follow the lighted walkway. The arrows on the campus map show the location of the disabled path to the Terrace Room Interim Library.
Persons with disabilities may also call the library at 503-943-7111 to request that materials or assistance be delivered to them on the main level of the Commons.

Accessing books, videos, and more:
Will the collection still be available?High-use reference and theology books, Popular books and DVDs, and reserves are available in the Terrace Room Interim Library. The rest of the collection, including books, journals, DVDs, and more is stored in the Tyson Hall garage. The Tyson Hall garage will not be open to the public.
Materials may be requested and will be delivered to the Terrace Room Interim Library. See the questions below about “How do I request…” for more information.
Why can’t I browse the collection myself in the Tyson Hall garage? The Tyson Hall garage has been retrofitted to meet the most basic needs for safe collection storage, but the space and conditions do not meet code for public access. See the next FAQ for tips on how to browse the collection virtually and how to request and pick-up items you want.
How can I browse a shelf of books (to find books on a similar topic) online? In the UP-only catalog, you can browse books virtually by call number to see additional items that cover the same topic. Watch the How to Browse the Library's Collection by Call Number
tutorial, or follow these step-by-step directions:

May I donate books to the library during the building project?Due to space limitations the library will be unable to accept book donations beginning February 2012 through August 2013. The University and the Library have benefited from, and are grateful for, gifts of fine book collections, but while the library is under construction only very limited exceptions can be made to this Interim Gift Policy. Exceptions to the Interim Gift Policy can be discussed with Susan Hinken, Head of Technical Services and Collection Development. She can be contacted at 503-943-7419, or hinken@up.edu.
