Library: UP's Video Collection Policy

In order to support the curriculum and instruction at the University of Portland, its library collects materials in a variety of formats, including video recordings. These recordings, such as VHS videos and DVDs, are purchased for the support of teaching activities rather than for public performance and are circulated under the following guidelines:

Library copies of videos, particularly those licensed for home-use-only, are circulated for use only in the following circumstances:

• The performance must arranged by the instructor or students
• The performance must be in connection with face-to-face teaching activities
• The entire audience is involved in the teaching activity
• The entire audience is in the same room or area
• A non-profit educational institution conducts the teaching activities
• The performance takes place in a classroom or similar place devoted to instruction
• The videotape is lawfully made

The home-use videos, along with the rest of the library’s video collection, are neither purchased by the library nor circulated with the intent that:

• They be used for entertainment, recreation, or enrichment programming in group/individual situations within the library
• They be shown before an audience not confined to students or not part of an instructional program
• An admission fee is charged
