Library: Services for UP Alumni & Guests
Borrowing items:
- Alumni may check out up to 5 items at a time from all circulating collections (except reserves).
Computer access:
- Alumni may use computers in the Terrace Room Interim Library, including library databases, space permitting. Priority for library computers is given to current UP students, faculty, and staff.
- Printing is available at a cost of $.05 per side. Alumni may pay for printing at the Library Service Desk.
- Alumni may access the university's guest wireless network. Ask at the Library Service Desk for information about connecting to the wireless network.
- Due to licensing restrictions, the library cannot provide off-campus access to library resources
Identification needed:
- Alumni must show an alumni card to check out books or use library computers or the guest wireless network. Please contact the alumni office during business hours Monday through Friday to obtain an alumni card.
Interlibrary loan:
- Interlibrary loan service and Summit borrowing are not available. Alumni should inquire with their local public library for this service.
RefWorks
- Alumni now have lifelong access to RefWorks, a citation management system. Alumni may access RefWorks from on- or off-campus:
- Using RefWorks from off-campus:
- Alumni will need a group code to access RefWorks; please contact library@up.edu to request the group code.
- Use this direct link to RefWorks, then enter the group code.
- Using RefWorks from on-campus: alumni may use either the direct link to RefWorks (above), or the RefWorks link on the library home page. On-campus users will not be asked to enter a group code.
Borrowing items:
- Guests from Orbis Cascade Alliance (Summit) institutions may check out an unlimited number of items from all circulating collections (except the kits, reserves, popular reading and popular DVD collections)
Picking up Summit items
- Guests from any Orbis Cascade Alliance institution may request to pick up Summit items at University of Portland (or any other participating library). Before requesting that a Summit item be delivered to UP, patrons must come to the Service Desk in the Terrace Room Interim Library and request to be adopted into our system.

For general internet access, the library recommends three nearby Multnomah County Library branches:
- The Kenton branch, located at 8226 N. Denver, has internet computers
- The St. Johns branch, located at 7510 N. Charles St, has internet computers
- The North Portland branch, located at 512 N. Killingsworth, has a public computer lab for internet access, word processing and more.
