Library: How do I get articles (and more) from the UP Library?
Learn more about how to find and request:
The easiest way to determine how to get a copy of an article is through a library database, such as ERIC or ATLA, using the process described below. If you already have citations to the articles you need, view a tutorial about how to find the full text from a bibliography.
From a library database (such as ATLA or ERIC):
- Find an article that you would like to locate.
- Check to see if the article has any Full Text links (for example: PDF Full Text, HTML Full Text, Linked Full Text). These links should take you directly to an online copy of the article.
- If your article is NOT immediately available online, use the Get it @ UP link to find out how to get a copy of the article.
What happens when you choose Get it @ UP:
- Your article may be online through another database. When you choose Get it @ UP, you may be connected directly to the article. Or, if you see a screen like the one below, choose the Access Article or Browse Journal links to connect to the online copy of the journal.
- If your article is not available online, choose the Request article: Logon to UP ILLiad link to obtain a copy through the UP library.
- Get it through Interlibrary Loan will connect you to UP ILLiad, our interlibrary loan system. Logon with your UP network username and password. (If you do not know your network password, contact the Help Desk at 1-800-227-4568 x7000 or email help@up.edu).
- You should be connected to a form that is already filled out with all the information about the article you would like to request. Choose the Submit Request button to finish the request.
- The article will be delivered (usually electronically) within 3-5 business days. You will receive an email from us as soon as the article is available.

To locate ERIC documents:
- In the ERIC database, find an ERIC document that you wish to locate.
- Many ERIC documents published between 1993-present are available online.* Select the Full text from ERIC link to connect directly to the online ERIC document.
* In August 2012, many full text ERIC documents were removed from the U.S. Department of Education's web site due to privacy concerns. The U.S. Department of Education is working to restore these ERIC documents to their web site. Unfortunately if your document is not available online, it is not possible to get a copy of the document. Please contact a reference librarian at library@up.edu for assistance locating alternative sources.
