Services for UP Alumni & Guests

Clark Library welcomes guests to visit our library. Some guests are also eligible for additional privileges.



All guests are welcome to:

  • Visit the library during our full service hours
  • Use print books, journals, and media (DVDs, CDs) within the library (viewing stations are available)
  • Use the quick lookup computer to search the library catalog
  • Use the UPGuest wireless network (guests may self-register)
  • Check out some items by purchasing a fee card

Guests who live within Portland city limits are welcome to:

  • All resources available to all guests, as well as:
  • Check out some items by applying for a Portland community card


Guests from any educational institution are welcome to:

  • All resources available to all guests, as well as:
  • Check out some items by purchasing a fee card or applying for a Portland community card
  • Use computers in the Clark Library (Learning Lab only), including library databases, space permitting, by showing a current, valid ID from an educational institution. Priority for library computers is given to UP students, faculty, and staff
  • For access to eBooks that require users to login, please ask at the Research Desk
  • Printing is available at a cost of $.05 per side (from Clark Library Learning Lab computers only; wireless printing is not available). Ask at the Library Service Desk for help with printing
  • Copying is available at a cost of $.05 per side. Ask at the Library Service Desk for help with copying
Guests from Orbis Cascade Alliance (Summit) educational institutions are welcome to:
  • All of the resources available to guests from any educational institution, as well as:
  • Check out an unlimited number of items from all circulating collections (except the reserves, popular reading, and popular DVD collections) with a current, valid ID from any Orbis Cascade Alliance institution
  • Guests from any Orbis Cascade Alliance institution may request to pick up Summit items at University of Portland (or any other participating library). Before requesting that a Summit item be delivered to UP, patrons must come to the Library Service Desk in Clark Library and request to be adopted into our system


UP Alumni are welcome to:

  • All of the resources available to guests from any educational institution, as well as:
  • Check out up to 5 items at a time from all circulating collections (except reserves and periodicals) with an alumni card (Please contact the alumni office during business hours Monday through Friday to obtain an alumni card)
  • Use computers in the Digital Lab, including library databases, space permitting
  • Attend Digital Lab workshops on a walk-in basis, space permitting
  • Lifelong access to RefWorks, a citation management system

  • Borrowing materials from other libraries (interlibrary loan)
  • Access to online databases, eBooks, and other resources, including access from home or outside of the library, and general internet access

The three nearest Multnomah County Library branches are:

  • The Kenton branch, located at 8226 N. Denver
  • The St. Johns branch, located at 7510 N. Charles St
  • The North Portland branch, located at 512 N. Killingsworth
