Course Reserves for Faculty

Course reserves (including articles, books, and videos) are materials set aside by faculty for a particular class that may be checked out for short time period or which may be provided online.

How to place items on reserve:

Please email library@up.edu with the following information:

  • Course Number and Title
  • Number of enrolled students
  • Semester course will be taught
  • Information about the items you wish to be placed on reserve
  • If you have previously placed these items on reserve for this course, please let us know when the course was taught last, and if you are adding or removing any items from your previous reserve list

All Course Reserve requests must comply with the Fair Use exceptions provided under Copyright: Section 107: Limitations on Exclusive Rights: Fair Use. Clark Library reserves the right to decide if course reserve requests fall within Fair Use guidelines. The library will contact you if any copyright concerns are noted.

Under copyright fair use guidelines, the library may post up to 10% of an entire work (such as a book or journal) on electronic reserve. If more than 10% of a work is requested, we may seek permission from the copyright holder and determine what royalties would have to be paid.

Faculty may access usage data for reserve items by viewing a current or previous course in the course reserves system and selecting Reserve Item Usage from the menu across the top of the screen.

Course Reserves in Moodle:

To facilitate access to reserve items, consider adding a Course Reserves block to your Moodle course page

Alternatively, faculty can link directly to articles in many of the library's online resources from their Moodle course pages. To ensure that students can access articles from off-campus, please follow the instructions for obtaining persistent links to library resources.

Course Packs:

As an alternative to course reserves, faculty may wish to consider creating a course pack, which may be arranged through Printing Services.
